    This is our initial supply list.  During the year your student may be asked to bring supplies for special projects.   Thank you for your support.  I look forward to meeting you all and anticipate a wonderful year.

    First and Second Grade Parents:

    Theme of the Week:  Arctic Animals

    • Bible:  We learned about how Jesus loves children and learned about trust.  Our Memory Verse this week was Matthew 18:16.     
    • Reading/Writing:  Introduced blends /oo/, /ue/, /u_e/, /ew/, /ow/,and /ou/.  We started our new unit “Journeys” and started reading “Captain Bill Pinkney’s Journey.”  We also read some stories about artic animals.  2nd graders read the true story “The Three Whales” and learned about the blends /ee/, /ea/ and final blends /in/, /on/ and /en/.  They also learned how to write a business letter.   
    • Math – 1st Grade – Subtracting 2, Tallying and Counting by 5’s and Drawing a Line with a Ruler.  2nd Grade – Adding Three 2-Digit Numbers, Reading a Thermometer, Subtracting 2 and Subtracting 10 from a 2-Digit Number.
    • Science – We continued our unit on “Comparing and Measuring” and measured different items in our classroom by their height and compared the items.        
    • Spelling – 1st & 2nd Grade – We practiced our spelling dictation words and did our Cloze Story Word Test and Skill Tests.   
    • Art – We made polar bears and paper plate penguins!

     

     

    Upcoming Events:

    • February 6th – 10th – Candy-Grams (More information soon!)
    • February 7th – Ice Skating at Riverfront Park – 1:00p.m. – 2:30 p.m. $4.50 includes skate rental.  Parent volunteers and drivers will be needed for this event.
    • February 10th – Friday Lunch Day & Hat and Sunglasses Day!
    • February 14th – Valentine’s Day Party!  (Student List sent home today).
    • March 3rd –Silent & Live Auction Dessert – Our classroom basket theme is “Coffee and Chocolate”.  A Confirmation Letter will be sent home on February 8th.  Please bring items in by February 15th.
